What God alone can give us

Our society emphasizes that it is up to us to become the kind of person we want to be and create the life we want to have. There are many growing spiritual movements that promote the belief that God is there to give us everything we want. The so-called law of attraction is one of them - if you envision what you want and “feel” that you are receiving it, the Universe will give it to you.

God’s statement:

Don’t sell yourself short. You cannot possibly conceive or create your self or your life as perfect as I can.

So, why are we so caught up in constantly trying to better ourselves and our lives? We seek perfection.

What is perfection? When nothing goes wrong, everything is how we want them to be.

Why do we seek perfection? We want to be in peace. When something is wrong, it disturbs us. When everything is just right, we are happy.

And what does it mean to have peace? It is to be content at all times.

The grace of contentment is something God alone can give.

“Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”
John 14:27

PAX

Meaning: PAX means the kiss of peace (during mass).

This is God’s rendition of the meaning of the story of Jesus, the Samaritan woman and the well. To quench our thirst for life, we draw water from the well of our world (money, recreation, relationships, career, self-help models, etc.). Yet, no matter how much we have and no matter what we do… we are never fully satisfied. We are never content with who we are, what we are, what we have and the world around us. For as long as we turn to the world as our source of life, we will never be at peace.
